What is lanolin? Is it good for you?

Lanolin is a common ingredient in everything from soaps to lotions to lip balms. I've done a list myself as an ingredient in more than a bottle of lotion and soap. That led me to wonder what exactly it is and where it comes from? Is friendlly animals and safe for us to use? We watched an episode of "How It's Made" months ago, where they discussed the lanolin which comes, and I wanted share with you what we learned about sheep production and lanolin.

We learned that lanolin is a fatty, yellow, waxy substance comes from the wool of sheep. It is excreted by the sebaceous glands of the skin, and acts as a waterproofing to keep cool. The glands are associated with hair follicles. Perhaps it is also called wool fat, wool wax or wool fat. I prefer to call lanolin - just sounds classier. His LANA name comes from the Latin words for wool and oleum for oil. It's really a wax, chemically speaking, but has been called an oil or fat for centuries.

Lanolin has been used for over 8000 years for each sheep farming culture of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Vikings, and even the Chinese. The ancient Egyptians used blocks to put it in his head that melted in the sun and provide soft smooth skin. Sailors and soldiers alike all used lanolin as a very effective corrosion and waterproofing agent for a variety of metals, materials, wood, and also to protect sails, leather, guns, etc. Instructions for use in texts doctors and pharmacists over the past 2000 years. The sheep are not prejudiced in any way lanolin in the process of harvesting. Lanolin is a very "animal friendly" products. When pure sheep farmers their sheep for wool (approximately once a year, as needed), then remove fat-like Vaseline, lanolin from wool sheared before washing. The sheep need their wool sheared off at least once a year or so long that the entanglements and too warm for summer conditions. When the wool is cleaned, remove the lanolin. Sheering wool does not hurt the sheep, it's basically like getting a haircut. One hundred pounds of wool yield two to four pounds of lanolin. It is a natural and renewable raw material, is not a processed synthetic compound. Lanolin pharmaceutical grade has had all or most of detergents and pesticides recidues eliminated.

There are many refinements Lanolin, a very crude form used to machine parts to the layer ultra pure medical grade lanolin used in hospitals and medical products. Lanolin can is found in soaps, many cosmetics, ointments, creams, and is used as a lubricant, and in finishing and preserving leather. Amazingly, it is also a ingredient in some paints and varnishes and in some bitumen.

Although it is natural lanolin, many people have allergic reactions to it. You can also clog your pores and can cause flare up. *** Tip: If you used products with lanolin, and have had no bad reaction, is well keep using them because the lanolin is a completely natural ingredient.
