Steps families can take to green living

I do not consider myself a huge environmentalist, but I am proud to say I saved my allowance to join Greenpeace, in the 80s. As an adult, I now realize the importance of having an awareness of our impact on earth and share with our children.

We may not be able to save our planet from every black cloud, but it is important to be responsible and respectful to the earth on a daily basis.

There are simple steps that can all take to help you live a greener earth friendly manner. We have to change our lives drastically, with some adjustments, nothing seems to be different (with the exception of the earth be filled with not so complete, our energy and water bills is not so high, and our knowledge that we are doing our part in life a conscious and environmentally friendly way).

The following is a list of simple steps that families can take to green living. It is not a complete list, but a starting point. The important thing here is that parents and caregivers discuss these measures and enforce them. If parents teach children to live green at an early age, children naturally, respect for the earth.

Steps for green living:

1. Turn off lights and TV when not in the room. Better yet, turn off the TV all together and grab a book!

2. Get energy efficient applications. This will help save on electricity bills as well as helping the environment!

3. Change out all the old incandescent bulbs with new energy-efficient fluorescent lamps. Not only save money, but time is not necessary to replace them as often and there is less waste of the bulbs that need less!

4. One thing that is better than these new energy saving light bulbs and the light is natural. If it is light, open the curtains and the sun! The natural sunlight helps with non-seasonal depression and Vitamin D!

5. Recycle all plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans. We've been hearing this for years, so do it! Every step counts.

6. Get a water purification filter, or simply a container with a filter like a Britta and stop using plastic water bottles!

7. Buy a kitchen timer and set it next to the shower at home. Take the 4 minute shower. One minute for the shampoo, one for soap, one for and one to rinse conditioner. Shaving with the water between soaping and rinsing. This is huge in helping with the water, especially if you have more than one child taking showers. Better yet, take showers with more than one person at a time and still maintain a few minutes! Make it a game!

8. Turn the faucet while brushing your teeth and while washing his hands. After a quick initial rinse, cut the water for the foam and turn again for a thorough rinsing to complete. For extra dirty hands, use a washcloth to remove dirt, without running water!

9. Recycling toilet paper rolls and towel. Better yet, if your children are in preschool or elementary school, except the rolls and give the school. Children are always able to make great art or science projects using a paper towel and toilet paper rolls!

10. Fix leaky faucets drip, as soon as the start of the leak. Do not procrastinate on these things. It only costs you money, but waste more water than you think.

11. Change your cleaning products, soaps and hand soaps kitchen to the environment. The chemicals in chlorine and harmful chemicals are not only bad for the land, that are bad for you! Think of cancer and fertility problems, not that much fun.

12. Every time you go to the store to stock up of supplies for your home or office, look for recycled or green products. In this way, you know you are at least trying to be green!

13. Organic is the way forward. Buying from local farmers if you can buy and most if not all the products in the organic section. Again, this not only benefits earth, but his body does not need all pesticides and chemicals, most cancer and infertility, Yuck!

14. Even shampoos and cosmetic companies are becoming more environmentally friendly. And these products are really good! Give it a try!

15. Be open to try new things that are green. The more open, the sooner you learn that this green movement is all sorts of fun and definitely makes you feel like being responsible! What could feel better than that?

Does the environment contribute to our health?

Does anyone think like me and feel that every day things such as plastics, cleaning chemicals, food preservatives, etc. contribute to things like cancer? Sometimes I feel alone in thinking about this. At home we only use natural cleaners or vinegar, do not use plastic for anything to eat, except so it is completely unavoidable. My kids eat natural organic as much as you can afford (my 16 years of age had a Twinkie first year last: (). Now I'm worried about something called phalates? In soaps, shampoos and perfumes? I lived in Colorado for 10 years where there seemed to be much more the mothers who felt that way, but since moving to Florida I looked like a freak. I do not understand why educated people can not take the time to look at the ingredients before putting in your body or home. I look after my friend's daughter and she really brings her own food to your ... loaded with preservatives, transfats, etc. I do not understand! I know that these things impact on our health.
