Baby Green Clean: Life Free of phthalates and parabens

The first time we washed our son in a river, he was very upset, but her screams pierced our young ears of parents, it was still a wonderful experience to go through because it was a way of being able to feed him, a form of link with him. We were all bathing supplies designed for the occasion. Among them a bottle of perfumed liquid body soap, baby shampoo, talc, baby lotion, and a little yellow baby towel. Many products that worked very well cleaned with products and were put on the market for babies what they thought were completely safe too.

Unfortunately, there is one important thing that I did not know about the products we use to clean our baby. Many of these products contain phthalates (or pronounced al-ATES) and dermis (pronounced ah-Bens pair), the first is a synthetic chemical used for the manufacture of flexible plastic Stabilizes and fragrances in many consumer products (ie cosmetics) and the latter is a chemical preservative used in products for skin care (ieshampoos, shaving and cleansing gels, lotions, topical pharmaceuticals and lubricants).

Phthalates have been shown to cause birth defects in animals. In an article published in the February 2008 edition of the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the authors stated that "children are more vulnerable to potential adverse effects of phthalates because of their ... metabolic capabilities, and development of the endocrine and reproductive systems.

Parabens have been found to mimic estrogen and may contribute to the development of breast cancers. In Writing in the July 2002 edition of Archives of Toxicology is said that when male newborn mammals are exposed to butyl paraben (a antifungal preservative in cosmetics), which "adversely affects the secretion of testosterone and male reproductive system function."

There are many health problems associated with phthalates and parabens. There is no reason to expose your baby to these chemicals when there are alternative products on the market. It is important that we find the organic products not only meet our needs cleaning, but babies are safe for them.

When choosing organic products make sure you read the labels carefully. Just because a product is declared to be natural does not mean it is necessarily phthalate and paraben free. Here are some ways to determine whether a product contains these chemicals:

1) The first and most obvious is look for products that say phthalate free (please note that many products are not labeled that way).

2) Identify phthalates in products for short or chemical names, such as dibutyl phthalate (di-n-butyl phthalate) DEP (diethyl phthalate), and BzBP (butylbenzyl).

3) Identifying parabens labels in terms of methyl paraben, propyl paraben, butyl paraben and ethyl paraben.

4) If "Perfume" then there could be phthalamates. If you say "perfume" or "fragrance free" there is still a possibility that the product is produced with chemicals synthesis in order to cover the smell.

5) Contact companies to inquire about the ingredients of the products you are interested in.

6) Find out if companies have ingredient lists for products that are available on their websites or can be sent to you if requested.
